Choosing a program
With more than 100 programs offered from April to August each year, the Academy offers a little something for everyone, and each of our camps is designed specifically for a certain age group. This means that not all programs are available to all ages, but it also means that we have created a system of programs where progression is a key element.

What's the difference between our many programs?

•  Camp Telluride is our oldest and most popular program. It is designed for different age groups and is a great introduction to Telluride and Telluride Academy. Campers will will have the opportunity to explore, swim, boat, rock climb, hike, test their imagination and be creative with arts and crafts. While we recommend this program for first-timers with little camping experience, many returning campers choose Camp Telluride because the instructors and the program, although familiar, are never quite the same. With the exception of Sessions One and Six, Camp Telluride sessions meet for two weeks, Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Except the 5-year-olds, each group has a Wednesday camping overnight that concludes when parents pick their child up at 5 p.m. on Thursday afternoon. Our oldest Camp Telluride group, 10 to 12-year-olds, will travel on a double overnight the second week of camp.

•  Specialty camps follow the same basic Camp Telluride schedule but add a focus on a specific skill or subject area for one to three hours each day. These programs are designed for returning campers or for those first-time campers with some previous experience and/or special interests.

•  Travel programs are Telluride Academy 's highest level of program progression. Throughout the summer the Academy offers a range of travel programs focusing on arts, international travel and outdoor adventure and challenge designed to push students to higher levels of accomplishment and personal growth.

A few more things to keep in mind:

Does your child have a summer birthday? As long as they turn the minimum age for the camp they want by September 15th, then they can still enroll. However, children must be five years old by the time they begin Explorers Camp.

Some of our programs have no overnights, and some have multiple overnights. If you are registering for a camp with an overnight or two, make sure both you and your child are ready for the experience!

All of our programs run for a specific length of time. You may not enroll for a portion of any program. This is unfair to your child and limits the experience for his or her fellow campers.

If you're having trouble deciding, please contact the Telluride Academy at 970-728-5311. We will be happy to help you choose a program that is right for your family!
