Why aren't Camp Telluride schedules available until the first day of camp?
Instructors rotate between different age groups over the course of the summer and work with different co-instructors almost every session. By tapping into their creativity and personal skills, we can keep Camp Telluride programs fresh and unique so campers are excited to return year after year or even several times in one summer. Instructors plan a camp theme and corresponding activities together. Once the itinerary is checked off by the program director, it's ready. Weather, special events, crowd levels in different places, maintenance work, and Forest Service permits also influence the activities and plans of different sessions and groups.

FAQ'sIs tuition assistance available?
Yes. The Telluride Academy values inclusiveness and offers tuition assistance to more than 100 students each summer. An application for tuition assistance can be obtained by contacting our office at 970-728-5311.

How do meals work?
We ask parents to send your child to camp each day with a healthy lunch, adequate snacks and a full water bottle. When your child leaves on overnights, you should expect to buy some communal items for camping meals. Each group of campers will plan their menu together, agreeing on what everyone will eat. Counselors will then assign specific food items to each child, and then our menu is complete! Food lists for trips involving overnights will be handed out on Mondays to give you adequate time to gather your child's items.

Can my child opt out of the overnight or the second week of camp?
Nearly all of our campers, except the very youngest, participate in a camping overnight, sleeping in tents or a few rustic cabins that we use from time to time.

We understand that there might be some apprehension regarding overnights, but we feel strongly that this is a very empowering time for children - they have a great time and gain a new sense of independence. It's also important to the group dynamic of each camp that all campers attend the overnight - one child is very much missed.

Your child should have spent the night at somebody else's house before they are ready for a Camp Telluride overnight. But the most important preparation for the overnight is support and encouragement at home. Our instructors are also prepared to help make this very special night a safe, relaxing and fun experience.

What's your cell phone policy?
Because our instructors carry cell phones for emergency use, we do not feel it is necessary for campers to pack their own phones. Our goal is to give our campers a positive experience with each other and with their natural environment; cell phones can detract from this outdoor experience. If your child or teen is going on an extended trip, we will plan check-in or call-home days before we leave.

What if it rains?
It probably will! Please realize that Telluride is a mountainous area that attracts rapidly changing weather. We go by the old adage that says: If you don't like the weather, wait 10 minutes. In all sincerity, it is not at all uncommon to have rain in the Town of Telluride while just a few miles away the day is sunny and dry. Our instructors take all necessary precautions with regard to thunderstorms and will share these safety tips with your campers.
